Reason 14 I’m Thankful to Be a SAHM

I’m continuing the personal reflection and taking a moment to share another reason I’m thankful to be a stay-at-home Mom. I think all Moms will relate to this. (You can read reason 84 and reason 112 too.)

Reason 14 is a simple reason but a very honest one. I’m thankful to be a SAHM because of naps.

Reason 14 I'm Thankful to be a SAHM - Another great reason!

Yes, it’s funny but it’s oh so true! It’s really near the top of my list. I don’t know a single Mom who doesn’t look forward to nap time.

No matter how smoothly your day is going, the break that comes with a nap is much needed. If you are having a rough day, nap time is appreciated all the more!

Sometimes, nap time is the only moment of peace and quiet a Mom has until late at night. When you’ve been going since before the crack of dawn, it’s nice to have a moment to breathe again.

Nathan is a good sleeper, for which I am very thankful! And I’m praying that his sister will nap like he does! I’ve learned to use every moment of nap time but that often changes based on the day.

On any given day, while Nathan naps, I may…

…take a nap, too.

…do the dishes and catch up on chores.

…work on some part-time work for my social media job.

…catch up on emails.

…cross some other items off my to-do list.

…work on a project that I can’t accomplish while my helpful 22 month old is awake.

Napping on Mommy

My tasks vary based on the day and what I need. Sometimes, the best thing for me to do during nap time is take a nap, too. If it’s been a rough day, sometimes that really is the best use of my time, even if I’m not crossing things of my constant to-do list.

Other days, I love having the peace and quiet to blog and work. Knowing that Nathan will be awake soon forces me to stay focused on the task at hand.

Some days, I simply use nap time to recharge. I do a combination of many things – and enjoy a piece of chocolate, while I’m at it.

That said, we have all experienced the frustration of days when naps are shorter than expected or we miss a nap due to crazy schedules. Even harder are the days when our child fights a nap and inside all we’re thinking is, “Please nap for Mommy!” Why do we experience those frustrations? Because we know the beauty of nap time.

Naps are just another reason I am thankful to be a SAHM. Tell me follow Moms…what do you like to do during naps?

  1. Ha! So true. Caleb has been taking a long afternoon nap for a few months now, and it is AMAZING compared to the two shorter naps that he was taking. Now that it has been colder, I’ve been enjoying a cup of coffee when he sleeps, but I think some chocolate sounds like a good idea too. 🙂

    1. Agreed! It’s an adjustment going from two naps to one, but I love having a longer block of time to accomplish things. Of course, yesterday, Nathan decided he didn’t want to nap at all. Thankfully, we’re back on track today! And chocolate is always a good idea! 🙂
