Easy Pretzel Toffee Bark
Looking for a quick dessert recipe? Try making this easy pretzel toffee bark – made with only 4 ingredients! Plus, it’s a dessert that freezes great!
Several years ago, I was looking for a new and different candy recipe. I love my 4 ingredient peanut clusters but I was in the mood for something different. I wanted something that was easy with only a couple of ingredients and didn’t require a candy thermometer. Enter this easy pretzel bark recipe! The original recipe I followed has since disappeared online, so I thought it was time to share my version – and how I have learned the process.
Toffee may seem tricky at first but it really isn’t with my simple steps. And the resulting taste? This pretzel toffee is an addicting candy that everyone loves! There is something about the salty pretzels with the sweet toffee that tastes like caramel but isn’t sticky. Topping it with chocolate is the perfect finishing touch.
The other thing I absolutely love about this recipe (besides it’s delicious taste) is that you can make this toffee ahead of time and freeze it. You can certainly store it in the fridge for several weeks at a time, or freeze it for months at a time. This makes it a great Christmas candy because you can make it so far ahead of time. I have been known to snack on several pieces or two straight from the freezer when I have a chocolate craving. Ideally, you plan ahead and move it to the fridge a couple hours before serving but you can also serve it straight from the freezer. I have done it both ways and both work.
Whenever I serve this simple toffee, everyone raves about it, and can’t stop going back for more. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Here’s how to make pretzel toffee.
Pretzel Toffee Ingredients:
- 1 cup salted butter
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 cups mini pretzel sticks
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
How to Make Pretzel Toffee Bark:
Line a 9×13 sheet pan (with edges) with parchment paper. This is important. I like to use my Pampered chef stoneware, but a similar cookie pan like this will work. You need edges so the pretzels don’t roll off the pan.
Cover the pan in a single layer of pretzel sticks. You can use mini pretzel sticks OR if you can find the thin mini pretzel sticks, those work too.

In a heavy saucepan, melt one cup of butter. Add one cup sugar, and stir to dissolve.
This is the part where you need to pay attention and give your toffee mixture some attention as well.
Continue cooking and stirring the butter and sugar over medium high heat until the sugar mixture is the color of a brown paper bag, about 7-10 minutes. This sounds odd to say, but it really is true. Just keep stirring regularly and consistently so your toffee mixture doesn’t burn. Around the 6 minute mark, you should notice your mixture starting to darken and it may look like it is separating. This is exactly what you want. Keep stirring a bit longer until it is a light brown color.
Please know that if you cook the sugar mixture too long and it gets to a dark brown? That is too long and your toffee is probably burnt. You will taste the burnt sugar if you use it this way. The best way to avoid this?
Set a timer for 7 minutes. Cook over medium heat and stir constantly until the timer dings. At 7 minutes, if your mixture is darkening slightly, then the toffee is ready. Do not cook longer than 10 minutes.
Pour cooked toffee over pretzels when it is the desired color.
Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the toffee immediately. Let the chips melt for 5 minutes and then use a knife to spread the chocolate chips smoothly across the hardened candy.

Put the candy in the refrigerator to cool for an hour. Break the candy into small pieces with your hands.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer. Layer parchment paper or waxed paper between your layers of toffee to avoid anything sticking together. Enjoy your delicious pretzel toffee!
This pretzel toffee bark will make a great addition to your holiday sweet treats. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
