Easy Chocolate Pancakes Recipe Kids & Adults Love
This easy chocolate pancakes recipe is the perfect chocolate breakfast recipe – that everyone will love. These chocolate chocolate chip pancakes are a fun pancake variation to make!
Saturday morning is pancake morning at our house. Most of the time, I make our thick and favorite homemade pancakes. But sometimes, we are in the mood for something different and special which is when I make these easy chocolate pancakes instead.
The original recipe came from the Pioneer Woman’s Food and Friends website. I tweaked and adjusted the recipe slightly since we discovered it. I mean, for one, who keeps buttermilk in their fridge? Not me!
These chocolate chocolate chip pancakes have since become a favorite in our home. I love that I can quickly mix up a batch with ingredients that are always on my shelf. My kids love that we get to eat them with whipped cream. And we all love that they taste delicious fresh – and freeze perfectly to enjoy later.
If you like chocolate as much as we do, be sure to try these easy chocolate pancakes soon!

Here’s my simple chocolate pancakes recipe.
Chocolate Pancake Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons vinegar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
How to Make Chocolate Pancakes:
Start by mixing 2 1/2 cups milk with 2 tablespoons vinegar to make homemade buttermilk. Let sit for 5 minutes while you begin the rest of the recipe.
In a large glass bowl, melt the butter. Stir in sugar, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon.
Stir in eggs and mix well. Pour in milk and stir batter.
Add in flour and mix until batter is thoroughly combined. Stir in cocoa powder.
Finally, stir in mini chocolate chips.
Preheat griddle and grease with bacon grease or oil. These pancakes may also be cooked on a stovetop or how ever you prefer to cook pancakes. I always use an electric griddle to make mine.
Use a large cookie scoop (or 1/4 cup measuring cup) to pour pancakes onto a hot griddle.
Let pancakes cook until bubbles begin to appear on the pancake. Flip pancakes. Cook until pancake is lightly brown and cooked all the way through.
Serve hot and enjoy! I recommend serving pancakes immediately and topped with whipping cream.
This recipe makes about 24 pancakes (give or take) when scooped with a large cookie scoop. I use the Pampered Chef cookie scoop (similar in size to this one) to scoop our pancakes.
How to Freeze Pancakes:
These yummy chocolate pancakes can also be frozen to enjoy later. Simply allow pancakes to cool completely before placing in a large gallon size Ziploc bag.
When ready to enjoy, remove a pancake from the freezer and microwave for 30 seconds. We microwave 30 seconds for 1, and 60 seconds for 2. Your microwave times may vary.
