Free First Day of School Printable Signs for Every Grade

Looking for free first day of school printable signs for your back to school pictures? These simple signs include every grade from preschool through college, with two different designs to choose from!

As a mom of 4 and former teacher, I know the first day of school comes with plenty to remember. There are backpacks to pack, school supplies to organize, and children to get out the door. Taking a first day picture is a special tradition, but getting ready for it shouldn’t add more work to your morning.

That’s why I’m sharing these printable signs for free. Just choose your favorite design, print the grade you need, and you’re ready for a picture!

What Grades Are Included in These First Day of School Signs?

Each set includes 17 first day of school signs:

• Preschool
• Pre-K
• Kindergarten
• 1st Grade
• 2nd Grade
• 3rd Grade
• 4th Grade
• 5th Grade
• 6th Grade
• 7th Grade
• 8th Grade
• 9th Grade
• 10th Grade
• 11th Grade
• 12th Grade
• High School
• College (Bonus!)

You can choose a colorful design with a white background or a chalkboard design with white lettering. Both sets include the same grades, so you can pick whichever style you like best.

All the signs are undated. There is no year printed on them, which means you can use them for multiple children and keep using the same set year after year.

Whether you have a little one starting preschool or a teenager heading off to college, there’s a sign for that new beginning!

How to Print Your First Day of School Signs

Both designs are available as a non-editable PDF file download.

The PDF is a simple option for printing at home. Select only the pages you need so you don’t have to print the entire set.

Regular paper works well if you plan to put your sign in a frame. If your child will hold it without a frame, cardstock makes it a little sturdier.

Simple Ideas for First Day of School Pictures

You don’t need an elaborate setup to take a picture you’ll treasure. A child holding a sign on the front porch is plenty! That is where we take our first day pictures every year.

You might take a picture in the same spot each year to see how much your children grow. Take an individual picture of each child with their grade sign, followed by a picture of everyone together.

These printable back to school signs also work for homeschool families. Pick your first day, print the signs you need, and celebrate the start of another year of learning.

For teachers, the signs make an easy classroom photo prop. Print your grade once and use it for each child’s first day picture.
