How to Read Kindle Books without a Kindle
I read a lot. Everyone who knows me knows that. Back when Kindles were new, my brother surprised me with a Kindle for Christmas. I have made good use of it and love the convenience of reading wherever I am. No longer do I have to take stacks of books along on my vacation. I can pack my Kindle and I am ready to go! I still read print books, but I read quite a bit on my Kindle, too. I love that I have hundreds of books at my fingertips anytime I am ready to read.
When I upgraded to my smart phone, I rediscovered my love of the Kindle with the Kindle reading app. Since my phone is always with me, I don’t have to carry my Kindle with me. I now can read whenever I have a spare moment – and I do!
The best thing about the Kindle app is that you don’t have to have a Kindle to use it! The Kindle app is completely free to download to your computer, phone or any electronic device. It is the best way to read Kindle books without a Kindle.

Simply download one of Amazon’s free Kindle apps to start reading Kindle books on all your devices. The Kindle app is available for every major smartphone, tablet, and computer. With a free Kindle reading app, you can buy a Kindle book once, and read it on any device with the Kindle app installed. And of course, you can also read that same Kindle book on a Kindle device if you own one.
With Amazon’s Whispersync technology, you can automatically save and synchronize your furthest page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights across all your devices. That means you can start reading a book on one device, and pick up where you left off on another device. I love the convenience of this!
How to Get Started with the Free Kindle Reading App
To get started, go to Amazon’s Kindle Store and look for the Free Reading Apps. Decide whether you want to read in the cloud (online), your smartphone, computer or tablet. Then, you will see options for various types of these devices (Android or iPhone, for example). Download the software of your choice, and start reading!

Yes see, I am a frugal Kindle reader. The Kindle books that I read are 98% free. I read new releases and quality fiction, published by wonderful companies such as Bethany House. Just because I’m frugal doesn’t mean I have to compromise my quality literature. I find lots of free Kindle books that I want to read.
Where to Find Kindle Books for Free
Did you know that Amazon has a list of the top 100 free books that is updated daily? I recommend book marking the list and pursing it occasionally. You can sort by category or best sellers, paid or free.
Baker House Publishing, a Christian publisher, has a page devoted to Ebook deals. They list many of their current free Kindle books as well as others that are on sale for great prices. This is one of my favorite places to find free books to read.
Mandi, at Life Your Way, had a great article about how to find Kindle deals on books you actually want to read.
If you’re looking for some good books to read, here are 20 books I think every woman should read. You can find lots more book reviews under my books tab. Make a wishlist on Amazon and watch for those Kindle versions to go on sale.
Don’t forget to check out Kindle books from your local library! What I love about this option is that the books simply disappear from your Kindle once the check-out date passes. You don’t have to worry about late fees or remembering to return a book this way!
Now, when you see any Kindle freebies, you can go ahead and download them! Here is one other important thing to know. Any Kindle book that you download is stored in your Amazon account. That means you can sync the books from your account to any app or Kindle that you use. Even if you’re not planning on reading a free ebook now but want to in the future, go ahead and download it. The book will be stored to your account for you. That’s a frugal solution, indeed.

I’m the same way, I love to read but don’t have a Kindle. I’ve thought about doing the app thing on my tablet or phone, but haven’t, only because I know that while it works, it would drain the battery a lot faster than normal since your screen is on for so long. That’s one thing about the eReaders is that they have technology for their screens that give you a lot more reading time before having to recharge the device.
Good point! I still read more in actual books than on devices, but it has handy to have the Kindle app when I’m stuck waiting with nothing better to do. 🙂
